Despite what I saw as two very disappointing showings from the Milan defender in the USA's last two games, I was very sad to see that Onyewu has been ruled out for six months after receiving surgery on his knee. This injury all but rules him out of league play for Milan in the remaining season, and even worse casts his world cup appearance in doubt. Even if Onyewu was to make a faster then predicted recovery, the time required to return to match fitness would make it very likely that he would have to sit out on South Africa.
